This is something my aunts used to whip up, and I thought it was long gone. Surprise! I found it, and it's even more delicious.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large 9x13-inch baking pan. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan before serving.
Optional: For added texture and flavor, top the cake with powdered sugar or your favorite frosting.
